Cardiac mapping for catheter ablation
Significant improvements have been made in recent years regarding cardiac imaging systems to facilitate and increase the efficacy of catheter ablation. While fluoroscopy was once the mainstay, and is still essential, high resolution CT or MRI and 3-D electroanatomic mapping, as well as intracardiac ultrasound complement and increase the precision and speed needed to map ablation targets. The availability of circular mapping catheters has also dramatically improved the speed of localizing electrical triggers originating from the pulmonary veins. These technological advances provide greater confidence in navigation, and have made possible precise, real-time tracking of catheter location and diagnosis, with the added potential of performing procedures more rapidly compared to conventional fluoroscopy.
