Therapy Outcomes

Catheter ablation may provide benefits over long-term pharmacological therapy in terms of Afib-free and overall survival

For some time, it has been demonstrated that catheter ablation leads to statistically significant improvements in overall survival compared to those on medical therapy, and ablation patients enjoy a survival comparable to that of the general population (ref. 20). Patients treated with pharmacological therapy, have a survival rate that is significantly lower than expected. Moreover, catheter ablation has been shown to improve cardiac function, even in individuals with congestive heart failure. These improvements also lead to increased exercise capacity and heighten the quality of life (ref. 20).
